Prayer is a time to seek God's will for your life.

Updated: Jun 16, 2019

Do you feel like you are a jack of all trades but a master of none? You have taken several courses, you have tried many different projects, you have multiple degrees, diplomas,

qualifications and certifications. You are a qualified teacher,a nurse, social worker, software engineer, events manager , a businessman or woman, you are a coach etc etc, a mum, dad, housewife, minister etc etc,the list is endless. You just have too much going on that you are so confused on what exactly is God’s will for your life or what is your God ordained destiny and what you are meant to do in in this life.Don't get me wrong, you can be gifted in all those things but God has a particular calling or purpose that He has bestowed on you.A reason for being born,in which you don't have to struggle to do because God embedded it in you,a strong urge towards a particular way of life or career, a vocation. For example ,A friend of mine says that when he was in his mother’s womb ,his mum always dreamt that he was surrounded by musical instruments. When He was born ,he would always hum as a baby and repeat what the mum was singing,at the age of three he was singing with a spoon in his hand,at the age of nine he was singing in the choir at church as the lead vocalist , by the time he was sixteen he was signed to a record label and released his first single which was very successful.Music was his calling, whether he was writing it, singing it or producing it.This is his reason for being born. To lead people to Christ and serve God through his music.

Ok I that this is a very straight forward way of discovering what your calling is or God’s will for your life.Thank God for His praying parents who had the prophetic dream that allowed them to know the will of God for His life and obeyed God.For some of us we struggle to know what God wants us to do and His will and purpose for our lives. For some our parents have already set our paths ,that we are going to be doctors, athletes, teachers etc but is that the will of God for our lives? Is it the God ordained destiny that we are meant to follow?

We all want to know the answer to that question, right? I mean, could there be a more important question or subject? No one wants to “wake up after 20, 30, 40 years and find out out that they wasted all these years living a life they were not destined to live“.We’re talking about knowing the will of the Sovereign God of all that is, the One who created us, who sustains us, who gave His Son to die for us.What does He want us to do with this life He has given to us.What is my assignment on earth?Waking up feeling purposeless is incredibly frustrating. You look around and see your friends and coworkers living passionate, engaged, meaningful lives. They have deep relationships, rewarding jobs and a sense of direction that compels them to hop out of bed each morning with a spring in their step. You know that God has something good in store for you. You don't believe He wants you to live a life of painful drudgery in which each day is a total drag. After all, the Bible is full of passages about joy. While this certainly doesn't mean that every single day is a parade and circus, it does mean that an overall sense of gladness should permeate your life. Here are 7 signs that you do not know God’s will for your life. Please note there are many more and the list is not exhaustive.

7 SIGNS THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW GOD’S WILL FOR YOUR LIFE.

1. YOU ARE LIVING IN SIN.

2. YOU DO NOT FEEL MUCH FULFILMENT IN LIFE.

If you go about your days experiencing little fulfilment, you may be wandering from your God-given purpose. Fulfilment comes from doing rewarding, meaningful, purposeful things. From a job that taps into your skills and passions. From a relationship that involves giving and receiving. From hobbies that are invigorating instead of mind-numbing. Yes, you'll have to do certain things that are boring and unfulfilling, but if you're entire life is gray, you probably need a change.

3. YOU LACK JOY AND EXCITEMENT.

4. YOU WORK JUST TO PAY BILLS.

You know the feeling of pointless work. You go to the office, clock in, do your job, then go home and collapse in front of the television. You work for the weekends and for retirement. All true joy you experience comes from things outside of work. From hobbies or friends or side jobs.Ecclesiastes 8:15 says, "And I commend joy, for man has nothing better under the sun but to eat and drink and be joyful, for this will go with him in his toil through the days of his life that God has given him under the sun."Would you say that this kind of joy characterises your life and work? If not, you may need to rethink.

5. YOU FEEL STUCK.

If you desperately want a change but also feel totally stuck in your life, that's almost certainly a sign that you're NOT walking according to God's purpose. Those who are stuck want to go in a particular direction but don't know how to get there. So they spin their wheels, feeling endlessly frustrated but unsure of how to make the frustration end. Do you feel trapped? This is an indication that you are not walking in God’s will for your life.

6. YOU HAVE NO DIRECTION.

If you don't know God's purpose for your life, you constantly feel a sense of aimlessness. You feel as though you're wandering from thing to thing without any forward progress. Nothing excites you and you don't have any specific goals you're working toward. Unlike the Israelite's, who wandered for 40 years yet still had a goal (the Promised Land), you don't even have a goal in front of you.

7. YOU ARE NOT HAPPY

HOW TO FIND OUT GOD’S WILL FOR YOUR LIFE.

Walk with God and Pray

For starters, if you are interested in knowing God’s plan for your life, then you must learn to walk with God. You need to develop a relationship with Him. Christianity is all about relationship rather than just religion. And so you must have an ongoing relationship with God by seeking to know who He is and not just what He can do for you. You must develop that relationship best by spending time for prayer, and reading Word. When you seek these disciplines in your life, God will begin the first steps to revealing His plan to you.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

Pray Above all, our greatest desire should be God. More than anything else in life, above all the pleasures and cares of this world, God should be our greatest love. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” When our greatest delight is God then our desires will naturally align with His And he’ll only give us more and more what we desire, Himself. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13). When you wonder what God's will is, seek Him first. How? Ask God in prayer to reveal His Will to me aright. The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). When you want to know what God wants you to do, pray. Pray for His will in your life to be done. Pray that your heart would be yielding and trusting to His direction. Pray for wisdom and discernment. God hears and He uses our prayers to carry out His will.He will tell you or show you what His will for your life is. Colossians 4:12 notes that a believer named Epaphras was “always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.” The Colossian believers needed to know and do the will of God, and so Epaphras prayed for them. We can grow in our understanding of God’s will through prayer. We can also pray for God to reveal His plan to others. If you want to know God’s will for your life, have a relationship with Him and Pray to Him, and He will reveal His will for your life. Remain blessed.
